They Will Be Gone

They Will Be Gone is a short film written and directed by Claudia Nader produced by the London Film School. The story follows the poignant journey of Yasmina, a young woman about to embark on a life-changing adventure abroad. As her last 24 hours in Lebanon unfold, she reconnects with the cherished people who have made Beirut feel like home. From the warm embraces of her family to the laughter-filled gatherings with friends, Yasmina's heart is filled with bittersweet nostalgia.

In 2023, the film was shot on set in Beirut, Lebanon using the city as a canvas for Yasmina's life. I wrote the script in London, and spent two months in Lebanon auditioning and gathering crew. After shooting, I came back to London with the footage and edited several cuts myself - a few months later, I worked with a colorist and sound designer to finalise the film.
Our cast provided the sense of authenticity needed to showcase life as the Lebanese youth. The diversity among cast members was necessary and all the while thrilling to watch on screen. The Lebanese film industry taught me a lot about perfection and spontaneity. In a world where chaos rules, adaptability and resilience are the most rewarded traits a filmmaker can exhibit.
Today, the film is currently on the film festival circuit.
